Recipe: Our Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

When my husband and I were first married, baking for me was mixing up a box of brownies and putting it in the oven.  So when my new husband asked for chocolate chip cookies {his favorite} I knew I needed to learn to bake...and quickly!

I started out using the recipe on the bag of chocolate chips, but they always came out "flatter than pancakes."  So I decided to start experimenting and this is what I ended up with:

Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes:  Approx. 3 dozen

What you need:
3/4 cup butter, softened                   1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup granulated sugar                  1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar     2 cups chocolate chips
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. maple extract
2 eggs
2 1/4 + 2 tbs. flour

Directions:
  1. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and maple extract in a large bowl with mixer until creamy.  Add eggs; beat well.
  2. Stir together flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to butter mixture, beating until well blended.  Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Drop by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.  Cool completely.
  4. Enjoy!
